National Service Scheme (NSS)

Profile Picture

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Established in 1969, NSS aims to develop students’ personality, leadership qualities, and social responsibility through active participation in community service. The NSS units of Seethi Sahib Memorial Polytechnic College, Tirur actively contribute to society through meaningful social and technical service activities. The college has two NSS units (Unit 131 and Unit 172) that work towards inclusive community development.

Major activities include village adoption programmes, medico-social services, medical camps, mass awareness campaigns, sanitation drives, adult education programmes for economically weaker sections, blood donation camps, and support for orphanages and differently abled individuals. The NSS units also restore damaged hospital equipment through the Punarjjani initiative and actively participate in fundraising programmes for pain and palliative care patients. In addition, NSS volunteers engage in agricultural activities, helping students connect with nature and understand the importance of sustainable living. Through these activities, NSS at SSM Polytechnic College plays a vital role in shaping socially responsible and compassionate citizens.
